Match Day - Friday March 18, 2022
Heifer International, Little Rock, AR
(Families usually arrive about 1 hour early. Seating is on a first come first serve basis
Match Day is an incredible experience for M4 students and family. It’s a time for students and family to celebrate the conclusion of medical school and the beginning of residency. Once the envelope is opened, the next journey begins.
What is Match Day?
Match Day is an event conducted by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). During this event, fourth-year students (M4’s) apply to programs, interview, and then send a ranked list to the NRMP. Residency programs also submit a list of their preferred candidates and using an algorithm, an NRMP computer reconciles those lists as best as possible. Essentially, Match Day helps the NRMP provides the means for UAMS students to get paired with the right residency program and Match Day is the culmination of that process. The individual results are sealed in envelopes which are opened on Match Day by the student.
What happens on Match Day?
Each student is usually allowed 4 guests plus themselves for a total of 5 people. Tickets will be given to students closer to the event. The doors will open at 10:00 AM. The ceremony will begin about 11 to 11:30 AM. The envelopes will be given out promptly at 11:00 AM.
During this time, senior medical students from all over the nation will simultaneously open envelopes to reveal their “match,” or where they have been accepted to continue their medical training through specialty residency. This match will likely dictate the next 3-7 years of their lives, so this is a monumental moment.
Pictures and celebrations will last until 1 PM.
That evening there may be additional activities.
Contact UAMS Parents Club for more information on Match Day
Match Day is the culmination of a student’s time attending UAMS COM. This is a major milestone for students and we want the parents of senior students (M4’s) to be a part of it.
You can contact the Parents Club for more information on how you can help by being a sponsor or by volunteering to help setup for Match Day on the day of the event.
